Diffusing Essential Oils

Diffusing Essential Oils

I use my diffuser every day… scratch that, I use my diffusers (plural) every day. I’ve had several people mention that my home always smells nice. Why, yes, it does smell nice, but did you know that in addition to the “nice” smell there are other, arguably more important benefits to diffusing essential oils?

Floral Bouquet Diffuser BlendHow does diffusion work?

Diffusers work by breaking apart the essential oil into micro molecules and then dispersing them into the air to fill an area of your home or office.  As the oils break down they release natural ozone which freshens and improves the quality of the air!  The particles remain in the air for several hours depending on how long the diffuser was on and how many drops oil were used. When we inhale such atmosphere, we also breathe in the health benefits of the essential oils. It’s important to look for a quality essential oil or aromatherapy diffuser, as not all the diffusers work equally well. (One of my favorite diffusers is this 300 ML diffuser because it’s fairly easy to clean!)

What are the benefits to diffusing essential oils?

Peace and Love Diffuser BlendDiffusion distributes essential oil molecules into the air very effectively. Diffusing also is an excellent way to maximize the beneficial properties of essential oils. When we inhale the essential oil molecules, they go into our bodies. There are many varied health benefits to different essential oils – all of which are very positive. Some essential oils can promote mental focus and clarity and others can help to keep the body’s immune system strong. Other oils can be very helpful with mood management. Whether you need to elevate the mood or promote feelings of calm, essential oils can be beneficial. There are small, bedroom diffusers in each of the bedrooms in our home. I diffuse a calming blend of oils in each bedroom of our home. I definitely noticed a difference the sleep quality of my children after we began diffusing. I will diffuse an essential oil blend that promotes clear breathing if any of our family members are struggling with a stuffy nose.

Diffusing smells good!

Sun-Kissed Diffuser BlendWhen we first moved into our house it had a distinct smell. It wasn’t an unpleasant odor, but it wasn’t exactly that new flooring or fresh paint smell either. I now diffuse essential oils on a daily basis. When we walked back into our home after being gone on vacation a few weeks ago, I noticed the change in the house smell. Now I know why when I have guests over, they always mention that the house smells so pleasant. I’m including a few of my favorite diffuser blends in this blog. Feel free to save to your Pinterest or share on social media as well. Happy diffusing!

  • With vinegar and water – I spray the inside with this mixture and then wipe clean.

  • I didn’t know I needed to clean my diffuser….how do you clean yours?

  • For diffuser recipes should the drops be combined before placing them into the diffuser? Or can they be added separately and directly into the diffuser?
Also, I’ve heard that the order of combining oils makes a difference?

  • Fill your diffuser with water first – then add the drops of oils. It does not matter what order you drop them in 🙂 Happy diffusing!
