How to Get More Out of Your Essential Oils on a Summer Road Trip

How to Get More Out of Your Essential Oils on a Summer Road Trip

Whether you’re going on a summer road trip or just have to commute every day, bringing your essential oils with you will make the journey that much more enjoyable.

In today’s post, I want to share a few tips and tricks with you for traveling in the summer with essential oils, including…

  • How to safely store and transport your oils to protect them from heat and light damage (a serious concern, so don’t skip this part!)
  • Why I think roller ball blends are really one of the best ways to use essential oils in the summer
  • How to change the way you think about driving FOREVER with an awesome invention you might not know exists…
  • How to crush your summer sweets cravings once and for all with essential oils

If your summer travel plans involve taking a plane, you’ll be pleased to know that yes, you can fly with essential oils—but there are some rules. Make sure to read our definitive guide to traveling with essential oils, which will detail exactly what you need to do to quickly and easily get through security the next time you fly with essential oils.

Having said that, let’s begin today’s discussion by taking a look at how to protect your oils during a long summer car trip, which is more important than you might think:

How to Protect Your Essential Oils From Heat and/or Light Damage During Summer Travel

Did you know that exposure to heat and light can damage your essential oils?

Not instantly, of course—but given enough time, say, sitting on the seat of a hot parked car, and you can bet that your oils will react negatively. That’s because light and heat can change the chemical composition of your oils, meaning that they won’t work as effectively. They won’t smell as aromatic and might even feel different.

Essential oils aren’t necessarily super expensive, but they sure aren’t cheap either—so the best thing you can do while traveling with them is to prepare ahead of time to protect your investment.

One of the easiest ways to do so is with a strong travel case. Take for example our 30 bottle, hard-sided travel case:

Essential oil case

This case features room for 30 essential oil bottles (10-15 ML, plus two slots for roller bottles), a hard shell case, and a durable double-zipper for both convenience and protection.

If that case is a little too big for your travel collection, we also carry an equally-as-durable 14 bottle case.

You’ll still have to be conscious of where you store your oils though. Avoid leaving them in direct heat for extended periods of time. So that means tuck them in your purse or bag instead of leaving them in the car, and if you’re lounging by the pool, keep them in the shade or leave them back in your room.

Why Rollerball Blends Are Perfect for Summer

If I may, I’d like to direct your attention to our blog post The Hottest Summer Essential Oil Rollerball Blends.

In it, I explain why roller ball blends are so awesome for the summertime—the key reason being that roller ball bottles are the easiest way to apply your topical recipes (i.e., blends that you put on your skin). A lot of the most useful “outdoorsy” blends, like the all-natural bug repellent recipe I share in the post, are best applied with roller bottles.

If you haven’t tried roller bottles yet, or you just want a fantastic upgrade, I can’t recommend highly enough our gorgeous, hand-polished gemstone roller bottle set.

The Must-Have Essential Oil Accessory For Your Car… This Will Change Your Life

Did you know that you can diffuse in your car?

Oh yes—yes you can. And it’s a real life changer, no joke. Imagine enjoying the soothing benefits of lavender oil on a long road trip, or whatever your favorite diffuser blend is. Whether you’re going on vacation or just stuck in traffic on your daily commute, it’s absolutely fantastic and makes your whole trip better.

Now… I’m not suggesting that you rig up an ultrasonic diffuser in your car (please don’t!). What you can do, however, is try out one of our car vent diffuser clips.

Use is super simple. You put a couple of drops on the felt pad and clip the diffuser to your car vent. As air blows through, you’ll get the benefits of your favorite oils. Personally, I love to use peppermint essential oil—it’s calming and helps perk up your focus, which can be very helpful on a long trip.

Our vent clip diffusers come in two different awesome varieties: our tree of life version, and our very own Aroma Outfitters lotus design. Each comes with 12 free felt pads.

They’re only $7.49 too, so try one out and thank me later!

I do, however, have a secret weapon that I use to curb my sugar cravings. Can you guess what that is?

  • I actually after years of pain meds..got off totally with help of peppermint ess. Oil mixed with jasmine ess. Oil. I also used Kratom which saved my life..quite literally! You can try both of these methods together, (I go to Online Kratom called BKB herbals and asked them-I used red kinds for pain relief and tapering down method, I was freed from addiction within 4 weeks!) Its definitely worth a try! To save your life, so you can help your son…take care!
